September Happenings ! !

By the time we'd arrived back in Anchorage from Texas, it had really started to get C.O.L.D., but didn't feel quite as bad as we'd expected.  We were greeted by "termination dust" which is basically a dusting at the top of the mountains that signifies the end of summer...and apparently termination of summer job contracts.  Makes sense.

By this point, the leaves were really starting to change color as well. Since we have mostly birch trees, the leaves really only turn yellow.  Unfortunately no beautiful fall foliage that we're used to coming from the Hudson Valley with strong reds, oranges, & yellows.  Eric was just happy to see the snow and the leaves change, he missed the seasons the last few years.

The day after we got back, we took a walk as it was such a clear day, to admire the Alaska range.
This beautiful sight is just a 5 minute walk from our house!

We also went down to Potter's Marsh

I signed up for a 300K bike race next July so I train a few days a week with my "biker" buddies...views of the Alaska range from Kincaid chalet.

At the end of the ride...

And I also went on a hike....gorgeous reds here!
Termination dust a the tops of the mountains.  My friend from Norway tells me it's like someone took a powered sugar and just sprinkled it right on the tops of the mountains...good analogy I think.

Loving the reds!   We brought containers to fill blueberries with, but it appeared we were a week or so too late, as it had already been too cold.

And on another bike ride..

Some of the fall foliage from our window, notice mountains are covered in clouds

And then on 29 September, we woke up to this....H O L Y  C O W ! ! !

 Stay tuned!!!
