An eventful few days!

This week is almost half over for us and it's been quite a week so far. On Sunday, my parents called me to tell me they had booked a ticket for them to come to Qatar.....they arrive THIS Thursday night!!! We are all so unbelievably excited, it is going to be great!

Another great thing that happened is that I got my license to drive!! The rules to get a license for an American changed a few months back and it is now necessary for Americans to take not only an eye exam but a signal test, make a perfect "L" parking job, and do a road test. To say the least, it is grueling! Luckily, I passed mine yesterday with flying colors!!!! We also received our car yesterday which is just great! We luckily have had a driver since we got here but now we have our own car and will feel like we have a bit more freedom. Eric has his driver's license test soon so then we'll both be licensed to drive in Doha.

The driving here is much like driving in NYC but worse. No one uses their turn signals, they are aggressive and just in general not polite drivers. It is very important to be as defensive a driver as possible and just be aware at all times. No "hands free" cell phone talking for me...I need to be as alert as possible!

Anyhow, we are really excited to be able to drive around ourselves especially with my parents coming. More posts to follow...hopefully some of my parents riding a camel or dune bashing :)
