Williwaw Lakes Hike - 10 July 2012

My regular hiking group was heading to Williwaw Lakes for a backpacking trip (aka, camping overnight) but also offered an opportunity for just a day hike.  So, I decided to head out on the day hike...and what a hike it ended up being.  We met at Glen Alps Trailhead at 9am, left by 9:30.  A lot of these photos really don't do it justice but my DLSR is too large to lug around hiking so iPhone photos will have to do.

Group shot from Mary Jane

Trudging through the mud.

Beautiful flowery shot. Thanks, Renita!

Photo from one of our stops.  It was quite a steep initial climb to get over the first ridge.
Even thought it wasn't the most beautiful day, it was clear enough to see the mountains and volcanos in the distance...Ridebout, Illiamna, Augustine and another that I can't remember the name of...
We made it to one plateau..on to the next peak...check out these backpacks...30-40 lbs!!

Group shot after lunch.

 Black Lake...still partially frozen.

Proof I was there!

This is about half way down, looking up...steep!  We climbed down this!

And these ladies did it with these large packs!!!

 Another view of the lake.

 We also climbed down this.

 Closer views of the lake

Gorgeous!

It definitely got a bit colder by this point...time for more layers!  My phone just about died at this point and we were only about 3 1/2 hours in.  We ended up hiking until 5pm...about 7 hours of hiking with 1/2 hour for lunch.  It was a great day, with changing weather but no rain, yay!  By the time I got home, I was beat!  Thanks for a great day, ladies!!
