Girdwood Forest Fair - 7 July 2012

After coming off of our high from Hawai'i, we finally emerged from our house to venture to the Girdwood Forest Fair...and what a fair it was!  Girdwood is home to Alyeska, a ski resort about 30 minutes from Anchorage.   We took the beautiful drive and arrived in Woodstock, I mean Girdwood, which turned hippieville for the weekend.

This fair was literally in the forest and all the signs and advertisements read, "no religion, no politics and no dogs"...just a peaceful environment in the woods without these things.   It's kinda strange that dogs weren't allowed, dogs are allowed everywhere in AK but it's understandable.  The religion and politics, well, enough said.    The fair had all sorts of hand made goodies including crafts, jewelry and lots of food.   By one of the booths, we happened upon this black bear...afterall, this is Alaska.
Can you see the bear in the tree?  Sorry for the crummy iPhone pic!
As I've said, and Rob and Lauren wouldn't let me forget in Hawai'i ...I never regret having my camera, and always regret NOT having my camera!  Darn, where were you Elliotts!?  You need to be in AK!

Funny signs all over
Great band and awesome backdrop!!!  What beauty!

Hula Hoop anyone?  They were selling them and everyone was going crazy for them!

Hmmm...Even Alaskans love Canadian....um, fries?!  Apparently they are a real Canadian thing (not the salt and gravy way) but they're called Poutine and they're served with cheese curds and gravy...the proper Canadian way :)

The amount of badly dressed people was, as you might have imagined, very high....not knocking it Alaska, just stating the obvious.  These badly dressed pictures are for you, Dru!   My dear friend Dru informed me that Anchorage received an award for the worst dressed city in the US...and let me tell you, it's all true!!!

More signs

Stuff Banana...very strange photo, but this booth had a contraption for "stuffing" the banana that you would not believe.  I wanted to take a pic, but was unable to. Basically it was a contraption that strapped (literally, with velcro) the banana in, and then they cut off about 1/2" of the end, and then they used a metal dowel to hollow out the middle and then they stuffed the banana with your choice of ...er, stuffing...mostly nutella.

???  Colonial dress or Fancy Pirates??

Check out the hair!

The master of the hair...loads of hairspray.  According to the girl in the chair, it washes out pretty easily.

Haha, creative.

More wacky hair!

This video sums it up well.  Reminds me of my time hanging in New Paltz and Woodstock.

Our view as we exited the Forest Fair...not bad, Alaska!
