The Camel Race...that wasn't....

My parents arrived late the night of the 30th of December.   We had a big week planned including a day at the races, a night at the W and a trip to Egypt.   We planned on going to the famous camel races here in Doha so we got all the info from friends who had gone before, packed a big lunch and headed to the track...or so we thought.

We arrived, seemingly on time (even after a few wrong turns) to find we were the only people there...

We started to see some camels so we were excited

But then saw the empty stands...

But then some more camels....confusing!
Note:  the little "robot" on the top of the camel on the left is the "jockey"
The cars on the right are there to follow the camels around....yes, only in Doha.

This guy was more than happy to have his photo taken...and also told us the race started at 2pm.  (It was 1:35 at the time)
We then drove around a bit, only to find that no, there would be no camel races today....
They were just taking them out for a spin.
Better luck next time.....It was definitely a "Doha Moment"
