My parent's first trip to "the" Souq

Souq Waqif, (www.souqwaqif.com) so we have found, is referred to, by many people here as "The Souq"...Souq generally refers to a market or a string of stores. There are many souqs here namely: The Wholesale Souq (more on that one later), The Computer Souq, The Thursday/Friday Souq, The Animal Souq (yes, they sell live animals to eat-very fresh-also a reason I am still a vegetarian), and the list goes on and on.

After an early morning and part of the afternoon of bashing the dunes, we decided it'd be best to maximize our time together on days when Eric did not have to work (ie. weekends) so off to Souq Waqif we went! Oddly enough, Eric and I always seem to visit "the" souq when it's on off hours. We were pretty exhausted this day so we just didn't have the energy to wait for everything to open.

First things first, we needed to check out the boats. Look at how happy my dad looks! I think he may want to buy it :)

After checking out the few shops that were open, we were off to eat some food....we were all famished. A friend recommended Tajine - a Moroccan restaurant in "the" souq.
Yes, this is a photo of the menu and I am highlighting the item in the middle "Tanjia with camel" --Fresh Local Baby Camel--enough to make my mom lose her appetite.

Our napkins for the meal. Yes, we are aware these are "facial tissues" but oddly enough, most of Doha has tissues on the tables (in place of napkins) at restaurants. Even lunch on the beach at the Four Seasons does this...of course The Four Seasons has a very classy leather case for the tissues to conceal the box, but at the end of the day, we use tissues as napkins here.

My dad, scoping out the menu. He's not intimidated by the "fresh local baby camel"....and neither is Eric.

After a day of dune bashing.

My food looked decent...tasted pretty awful.

Yup, this reads "Puke" Life....it's supposed to be "Pure Life" but I guess someone was against Nestle!

Some guards, doing their drills.

Quick photo with a very "Moroccan" background. The food may not have been great, but the atmosphere was authentic.

Walking around--a typical alley with all sorts of goodies
We really wanted a photo of the gentleman on the horse but we felt it was a bit rude to take a photo of just him so I posed in front.

Another typical stand with my parents in front.

A better view of the carpet sale.

By the time we hit this carpet sale, we were all pretty exhausted and ready for some R & R. Stay tuned for more of my parent's visit.
